ASMF’s Walkabout hand picks Organic Australian Music

ASMF 2011 is excited to announce Australian musicians to accompany the visual mosaic that is the variety of surf flicks screened during ASMF 2011: Walkabout.  If you haven’t already locked in dates for the festival near you make sure to get over the the festival calendar soon and get your tickets as the 2011 tour is set for festival launch at Randwick Ritz Cinema Thursday the 3rd of February.  The lineup of films, music and prizes promises to ignite the drive to explore.

ASMF is built to deliver a unique structure of hand picked short films, with a break of live music from a different musician, varying from event to event, and followed by a masterpiece of surf journeys from the last year.  When it comes to surf films, Australia has always been tuned on to the importance of well thought out soundtracks.  ASMF lives up to the challenge with a unique array of musicians scheduled to play throughout the five week tour.

In the true spirit of the Australian exploration Tim Bonython, filmmaker and festival founder, has gone to great depths to source out “organic Australian music.”  Musicians to contribute live music to the festival include; Tim McMillan Band, Laura Hill, Juzzie Smith, FisherKing, Pico & Dave Flower Band and Band of Frequencies.

A well thought out roster compliments the festivals tone and promises to encompass the messages of exploration, roots and love for the ocean.  Most recently Juzzie Smith’s tunes have been highlighted on Outback Fight Club, yet he still has the passion for his music to draw a massive crowd on the streets of Byron Bay.  It is musicians like these that play for the the onlookers that is exactly the vibe ASMF directors were looking for when they sought out music involvement.

These musicians live and breath the very messages ASMF directors are aiming to deliver, in the sense that it is about the event but it is and always has been about the festivalgoers. Including musicians with strong and passionate Australian roots is what it is all about.
